  1. Fascinating interviews! She shared so many wonderful stories from that golden age. I love her obvious affection for Stan and Ollie. Somewhere on Facebook, a commenter mentioned that at one of the conventions she said she disliked Lupino Lane which broke my heart a bit! If this is true, do you know why she didn’t like him? She was so great working opposite Lupino in Fandango and made such a wonderfully frightening dance partner with him, LOL.

    1. I’ve heard that mentioned too, but have never seen a source quote…
Pure speculation on my part, but I can imagine that Lupino knew exactly what he wanted for his slapstick routines, and was probably a perfectionist in his pursuit of these… He often worked with the same little band of close collaborators (Wallace Lupino, Tom Whiteley, George Atterbury), who were well-versed in his particular music hall comedy style (especially in the two-hander routines that became more and more a part of his films in the late silent days). I can imagine working on such specifically choreographed routines might have been potentially frustrating for Anita…
As I say, pure speculation on my part, and perhaps one of the more knowledgeable silent comedy people out there can enlighten us…
